Survival of the Fittest

Ceaselessly we vehemently reject solutions to endemic ills...

Blindly we obdurately repudiate unity in the face of relentless discord...

What if...?

Survival of the Fittest

~ * ~

What if the fate of the world - rest in our embrace of solutions?

What if the fate of the human race - rest in our embrace of unity?

~ * ~

Would you choose endemic ills over the fate of the world?

Would you choose relentless discord over the fate of the human race?

Would you reject solutions - ?

Would you repudiate unity - ?

~ * ~

Long live - the survival of the fittest!

~ * ~

What if the fate of the world - rest in judgment?

What if the fate of the human race - rest in jury?

What if our fate - rest in execution?

~ * ~

Would - such judgment, such jury, such execution - matter?

Or would - such judgment, such jury, such execution - be irrelevant -

Amidst the insistent cacophony of self interest?

~ * ~

Long live - the survival of the fittest!

~ * ~

What if - embracing solutions - or not -

What if - embracing unity - or not -

Was a test?

Of the world?

Of the human race?

Of us?

~ * ~

What if - embracing endemic ills -

What if - embracing relentless discord -

Was evidence -

Was proof -

Was certainty -

That the world -

That the human race -

That we -

Failed?

~ * ~

Long live - the survival of the fittest!

~ * ~

Moreover -

What if -

The world, the human race, we -

Had been tested before?

Moreover -

What if -

This -

Was the world's last chance -

Was the human race's last chance -

Was our last chance -

To reject endemic ills -

To repudiate relentless discord?

What if -

This -

Was the world's last chance -

Was the human race's last chance -

Was our last chance -

To embrace solutions -

To embrace unity?

~ * ~

What if -

The last chance - to live, to be, to exist, to survive -

Had been conferred

On one condition - one last time:

That we be better?

That we live virtuously?

That we exemplify honor and integrity?

That we eschew petty grievances that inflame endemic ills? That we disavow superficial differences that scaffold relentless discord?

That we effect solutions that actuate peace? That we cultivate unity that perpetuate harmony?

~ * ~

Long live - the survival of the fittest!

~ * ~

If you sat in judgment of the world -

If you sat in jury of the human race -

If you sat in execution of us -

What fate - would you deem - just -

for the world?

for the human race?

for us?

After all the evidence -

After all the arguments -

After every defense -

After every excuse -

What fate - would you deem - just -

for the world?

for the human race?

for us?

~ * ~

What if -

This isn't fiction?

The whimsy of an over active imagination?

The fascinations of an idealist?

The curiosities of an insane dreamer?

Much less the meaningless and worthless word of -

The hypocrite?

The deceiver?

The false prophet?

What if -

This is a gift?

Do you take it - for what it is?

Or - do you toss it aside - in favor of enticing cacophonies of self interest?

~ * ~

More

If you are right - or you are wrong -

Is the risk - if I am right - worth it?

In the end - if I am right - or I am wrong -

Is not the question - what if - still valid?

Alas -

If this era is the era of -

The World on Trial -

The Human Race on Trial -

Us - all together - on Trial -

Far too many of us - are far too content pointing fingers and shifting blame - vis a vis incoherent tautological morasses of extrinsic factors to blame and intrinsic factors to blame, ad nauseum - hoarding self interest above interests of all for all - demanding unearned entitlements and advantages on the basis of 'species', 'nation', 'race', 'sex', 'class', 'religion', 'sexual orientation', ad infinitum -

To be accountable for and responsible for -

The fate of the world -

The fate of the human race -

The fate of us - all together -

Even as - every choice - of pointing fingers and shifting blame -

Every choice - of evading liability in favor of extrinsic factors and intrinsic factors -

Every choice - of hoarding self interest -

Every choice - of demanding privileges per isms -

Is ours -

That we and we alone - are accountable for -

That we and we alone - are responsible for -

Such is true justice -

That true justice - does not revoke accountability and responsibility - per virtue of extenuating circumstances, mitigating factorsspecial considerations, 'facts' of conditions and attributions -

Extenuating circumstances, mitigating factors, special considerations, 'facts' of conditions and attributions - do not nullify accountability and responsibility -

Per all that we are responsible for -

Per all that we are accountable for -

As the world -

As the human race -

As us - all together -

Such is true execution of true justice -

True execution of true justice - spares no one - that fate of all.

~ * ~

Are you prepared -

To meet -

Gods and goddesses of ever and anon - today?

Titans - today?

Q - today?

Et alia - today?

Are you prepared -

To meet -

Gods and goddesses of ever and anon and Titans and Q and (et) alia - as -

the judges, the juries, the executioners of true justice - for -

the world, the human race, us all together?

Or - are you sure -

Or - are you certain -

On facts -

On faith -

That that is the whimsy of an over active imagination?

The fascinations of an idealist?

The curiosities of an insane dreamer?

The meaningless and worthless word of -

The hypocrite?

The deceiver?

The false prophet?

~ * ~

Is life worth so little -

Is self interest worth so much -

That 'melanin' and nations of actual and fantasized ancestry matter more than unity?

That names that engage assumptions per 'species', 'nation', 'race', 'sex', 'religion', 'language', 'marital status', etc. matter more than unity?

That boxes for 'data' collection per categories of determinism matter more than unity?

That money as 'reparation' matter more than unity?

That vengeance as disenfranchisement matter more than unity?

That rationalizations of intolerance per 'religion', 'science', 'faith', 'fact' matter more than unity?

The world is the world.

The human race is the human race.

We are us all together.

Every one of us is one of all of us, all together.

Isn't it time -

We stopped defending - 'It's not my fault'?

We stopped legitimizing - 'It's this fault', It's that fault'?

We stopped sanctifying - cradling victims and hanging villains?

Isn't it time -

We reversed our descent into the trenches of devolution?

Isn't it time -

We progressed forward and embraced solutions and unity?

If now isn't the time -

What if -

Tomorrow is too late?

Whether we like to admit it or not, the end of the world is on our mind, whether conscious or subconscious. Your piece reminds us that the power to save or destroy the world or ourselves lies with the choices we make - not others. As you say eloquently say, the real question is what do we want to do? Do we want to hold ourselves accountable and fix the mess that we have made together instead of blaming each other and moving further apart? Or do we want to pack up shop, head for Mars, and never solve the problems we have so that the end just keeps hunting us down until we are no more? I worry less about aliens, gods, titans, and other things; and more about what are we going to do to each other. Maybe that's a better use of celebrity time, of government's time, and the rich's time then all of the vapid pursuits we have - but who's to say that they will listen to us any more than they listen to the truth?

The fact that someone as great in mind and kind in soul as you has to write a piece like this - in the hopes that people will listen and change is quite depressing to me.

Many people, I count myself as one, believe that the end of the world is happening all the time (and to an extent it is). The reason we believe this is that it is a paradox that gives us hope that there can be some form of change or improvement before its too late - a way to remind us of our accountability to do better by those in this world and not just ourselves.

  3. Magnificent! This would make a great sci-fi piece... Someone should... make this into... a movie... Sadly... it's not fiction... whether it is us... destroying our selves... or another beings... showing up to bring.... us to justice on behalf... of all of the creatures on this planet... and the universe... this is all too true...

Regardless... this sated my incredible... fascination and appetite... for stories about the Apocalypse...the end of the world... and how we deserve what we get... in the end.. for all that we have done here... Here's hoping... that the aliens... don't overgeneralize... all of us.... into the same bucket...

It's easy to throw up your hands and believe that when things aren't working out for us that the end of the world seems like an easy way to wipe the slate clean and start over. Many of you are going to read this and think that is what she is suggesting but implore you to read deeper into this. What she is really imploring us to do is to take the hard road and fix what we have done by holding ourselves accountable and to the interests of all things rather than just ourselves or our species. We don't need aliens, earthquakes, Cat-5 hurricanes to do better - we just need faith, charity, integrity, and the truth. So who is with me? Let's take this back before we find ourselves on the brink of this story and its too late.

  5. Great post! Unity is absolutely essential for Earthkind to continue to survive. As a world we need to be better at having faith and understanding.

  6. It’s time for us to put aside our differences and fight as one kind for everything that makes for a better world. It’s time to stop dreaming of each race, country, gender, religion, and all other labels are special and start dreaming that all kind are the most special and that we can all live together in peace and happiness with charity and kindness to all.

I go to sleep every night – feeling as if the world is getting worse – a world of selfishness – a world devoid of humanity – and one where we believe that humans are inherently evil – not worth saving. Would it not be nicer to feel the serenity of unity – to know that we are a better kind with a world that is compassionate and humane – one where others look at us think that we are all good? I would love to be in that world – let’s start by eliminating labels, restoring the pillars of humanity, and being kind to each other.

I believe that if we are going to make it that we must make corporate America a pillar of social change in our society, helping government and charities. The private sector is huge and frankly is the absent party at the table. We need the entire private sector to not just commit itself for token charity and community actions but to place the higher and larger purposes of building a better world higher than just making profits. Without corporations doing this – we will always stay stuck in eliminating habitats, dividing humanity, and destroying the basic concepts of humanity.

How to build a better world? How to avoid the end of this life as we know it? Well, for starters you cannot hope to build a world worth saving without improving the individuals that live here. No, I am not saying that we should improve ourselves to become richer. No, what I am saying is that each of us must work to improve ourselves against the ideals of humanity: the pillars of faith that have been prescribed repeatedly here; and at the same time, we MUST share a general responsibility for all of humanity – as we are all in it together. We have one particular duty above all else – to aid those around us regardless of species or label and to put their welfare on the same, if not higher level than ourself. Then, and only then will we not have to worry about being judged by anyone.

  10. My only satisfaction in life, well I guess the most important to me now is: my commitment to advancing a better world that is just, kind, charitable, and a friend to all.

  11. America has problems – and we contribute greatly to the ills of the world – although others are definitely trying to catch up to us. We need to fix these problems if we are going to be great again. Let’s get back to one of the very core values of our state – E Pluribus Unum. This used to be a concept that richly flowed from the highest of offices and was an ideal that we could all get onboard with. Instead now our highest ideal is Me Me Me! Let’s join arms and get back there.

  12. We must remember what a great Titan of our society once said - There are no nations but only humanity. If we can't get this then there will be no nations because there will be no humanity left.

I for one would like there to be humanity - so put the needs of all kind in front of your own - lest a Titan return and end the humanity that is undeserving of a 100th chance.

  13. The universe thinks of humanity as one – they judge us on the ideals that we are like them – undivided and indivisible. That means that each of us is responsible and accountable for the misdeeds of all other humans – no matter how wicked they may be. As a whole – we must start to hold our fellow humans to a higher standard as our fates are entwined with each other. So – stop making excuses – start holding people accountable – not for being special or unique – but for being human and acting humane.

This post is so layered - Libbie and I are still talking about the different layers present - with each a revelation.
